1. Introduction
GridKind (Pty) Ltd ("GridKind", "we", "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 ("POPIA").
2. Information We Collect
We collect your verified phone number and display name; community, invitation and transaction records; payment confirmations; an optional coarse location cell; and, only when you enable them, an encrypted emergency contact and encrypted push subscription. The contact picker stays under your phone's control: GridKind receives only the name and number you select and confirm. We do not collect your address book or store card details.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use this information to verify membership, maintain your private community graph, process gifts and contributions, fulfil selected services, operate safety checks, show in-app activity and send a generic Web Push wake only when you opt in. Private details remain inside the authenticated app. In PWA free mode, GridKind does not automatically send paid WhatsApp templates.
4. Legal Basis for Processing
We process information with your consent when you make an optional choice, where needed to provide a service or fulfil a transaction you requested, and where reasonably needed for security, fraud prevention, audit and legal obligations. Optional emergency contact, push, occasion and marketing choices can be withdrawn separately.
5. Sharing Your Information
We share only what is necessary with our hosting and database providers, payment and fulfilment providers, a selected merchant, and your browser's push service when you enable updates. Messaging providers receive only what you choose to send through them. For WhatsApp, that can include a user-composed invitation or an inbound verification, reveal, emergency or support command. GridKind does not send those invitations for you. We do not sell personal information.
6. Anonymous Gifting
When you send an anonymous gift, your identity is not disclosed to the recipient through the recipient-facing experience. However, GridKind retains an internal record of the sender for audit, fraud-prevention, and dispute-resolution purposes only.
7. Data Retention
We retain membership and transaction records while your account is active and as required for legal, accounting, audit or dispute obligations. Emergency contacts remain until you remove them. Push subscriptions remain until disabled, expired or rejected by the browser push service. Short-lived verification and reveal proofs expire automatically.
8. Your Rights
Under POPIA, you have the right to: access the personal information we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate information; request deletion of your information, subject to legal retention requirements; and object to certain processing of your information. 9. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. If you explicitly enable offline emergency access, only that chosen contact is encrypted on your device. Community, payment, fulfilment and voucher data are never cached for offline use. Push notifications contain only a generic wake; the authenticated app fetches the private update after it opens.
10. Children
GridKind is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be shown in the app or on this page before a new optional consent is requested. GridKind does not rely on paid WhatsApp templates to deliver privacy changes in PWA free mode.
